I have completed a number of training courses and passed all the regulatory procedures to fully prepare me to look after children.
The following are a list of qualifications achieved, training courses attended and regulatory certificates:
My husband and I are the only adults living in my home. Therefore we have both undertaken enhanced CRB checks.
The CRB is an Executive Agency of the Home Office that provides wider access to criminal record information through its disclosure service.
This service enables organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors to make safer recruitment decisions by identifying candidates who may be unsuitable for certain work, especially that involve children.

In both reports, certain details are removed to prevent identity theft.
The Data Protection Act (DPA) requires me to register as a Data Controller and comply with a number of important principles as I handle personal information about you and your child. It also gives you right over your personal information held by me.

The London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority carried out a fire safety visit to advise (jpg; 304KB; opens in new window) on how to reduce the chances of a fire occurring. This involved looking at all the rooms in my home and advising on safe practices.
This visit led to the development of my policy on an emergency evacuation procedure.
This qualification gave me the knowledge and understanding of the importance of food hygiene, associated food hazards, good hygiene practice and controls based upon an awareness of food safety management systems. As I prepare meals for the children I look after, it is important to understand and maintain best practice in the handling, processing and preparation of safe food.

This brand new qualification taught me the fundamental principles of health and safety in the home. Topics covered in this course were areas such as safety, welfare, risk assessment, hazardous substances, safety in vehicles and manual handling.
The CIEH, who run this course, are a registered charity and the professional voice for environmental health. It sets standards, accredits courses and qualifications for the education of members and other environmental health practitioners.

This course covered the basic training for home-based childcare. I learnt about assessing the home for risks and about making it a safe and healthy environment for children. I also learn how to plan the way I work with children and how to make a good start in my relationship with the children’s parents/primary carer.
An important area I learnt about was around the issues of child protection and the regulations governing home-based childcare.

All childminders need to be registered by Ofsted so that they can be regulated to the very high standards that are expected of parents.

This course trained me to provide immediate first aid care for infants and children. For example, how to manage an infant or child that is not breathing normally, is unconscious, bleeding or is ill or injured prior to the arrival of the emergency services.
